Cassie

Meet Cassie, a beautiful young springer, just 16 months old, who needs a new home and a new start. Cassie has come to NWESSR following her owner’s ill-health and is currently living with a neighbouring family who love her dearly but are not in a position to look after her full time.

Cassie’s an affectionate, lively, intelligent dog so she needs an active home where she can get the mental stimulation and physical exercise that a young springer thrives on. New owners will need the time and experience to encourage and develop her existing talents as well as keeping her youthful distractions in check. She already shows strong working instincts, her retrieval skills are improving all the time and while she likes to chase small birds, she’s shown little interest in livestock. On her walks, she has a tendency to pull on the lead and her recall can be less than perfect when distracted.

Young Cassie happily shared her home with an older springer but needs more exposure to different dogs out on walks as she will bark if they make her nervous. She’s not yet experienced being around children or cats, so new owners will need to bear this in mind when making introductions.

In the home, Cassie loves plenty of fuss and attention and is delightfully playful. As well as being gorgeous, she’s got bags of potential and, with the right guidance and training, can look forward to a great future with a new family. Could this be you? If so, please complete a vetting form, mentioning Cassie in your application.

Robbie

Dear All,
It is with great saddness that we have to inform you that Robbie passed away unexpectedly whilst in overnight at the emergency vets on the 28th december. We were devestated not to have been able to be with him and to have said our goodbyes. The house feels unbearably empty without him and we miss him terribly.
Robbie came into our lives in December 2009. We travelled up from Hampshire to Rose Tree Farm with two very excited children not really knowing what to expect. All we knew was that they had an 8 month old springer that would be perfect for our family. When this liver and white whirling dervish appeared from the kennels i think it was love at first sight and he came home with us that day.
Robbie was a typical Springer. He loved his walks whether it was fields, woods, mountains or the beach. He enjoyed his weekly gundog training sessions for a while but he generally had the attention span of a gnat and always appeared to be looking in the opposite direction to all the other well behaved labradors but still managed to execute the required task.
Over the last few years his activities slowed down due to elbow dysplasia and arthritis in his hips. This did not stop him from chasing the squirrels or pigeons in the garden. He was a total cuddle monster and always had to be touching.
We are so very grateful to have had him in our lives. We buried him in the garden at the weekend amongst the ornamental grasses he so loved to flatten. He may be gone from our sight but will forever be in our hearts.

Harry and Finn

We adopted Harry and Finn, previously known as Smudge and Loki exactly a year ago on the 10th February. They settled in brilliantly and are a right pair! Both very different, constantly on the go but we love them so much. They’re loving life here in Cumbria with lots of exciting adventures in this beautiful part of the world. ❤

Max aka Maximus

Hello
My name is Max aka Maximus and on the 13th of January I celebrated my 3rd Gotcha day from the NWESSR. Despite the COVID thingy, this year I have had lots of walks in the woods and fields across the road from my home. I’ve made new morning friends, Merlin the boxer, Oz the retriever and Teddy the cockapoo.
Humum and hudad bought me lots of new toys for my 5th birthday in June, then I went on holiday with humum and hudad to Barmouth in Wales and stayed in a hotel and spent lots of time playing in the sea and visiting new places.
I went with my hufamily to restaurants to celebrate their birthdays and had lots of roast beef and turkey. On Christmas Day we went to my huaunty’s house and I found lots of new rooms to explore, then we had turkey dinner and after dinner santa paws brought me lots and lots of toys and treats.
I love my hufamily.

Gracie

Gracie, 11 months old, adopted in December 2021

Gracie missed out on that all too important basic training as a puppy.  Having lived in a small house with young children and a busy owner, the lack of training and experience resulted in a young dog with anxiety and fear issues. She began chewing incessantly and overreacting, occasionally snapping at her owners, when visitors and other dogs came into the home.  Despite going to a new home at 7 months old and making some progress, Gracie proved too much of a challenge for her new, elderly owners and, as a result, she arrived into NWESSR’s care.  She’s still mouthy, with a tendency to snatch at her toys, but her positives are that she loves walks, is fanatical about being in water and is very attentive off the lead.  She’s playful and friendly with the larger dogs she meets, but can be a little boisterous with smaller dogs.  She’s now ready to make up for all that lost training time.

Nessie

Nessie, 1 year old, adopted in December 2021

Adopted in December, Nessie had become excluded within her owner’s home.  Three young children, one with asthma triggered by dog fur, together with the parents’ increasingly difficult working hours meant Nessie was left on her own, without sufficient exercise and attention, for hours at a time.  This eventually led to occasional resource guarding as well as growling and bareing of teeth.  Nessie is an active and lively dog, she loves her walks and despite never living with another animal, is playful and friendly with dogs she meets outdoors.  She’s settling in to her new, fuller life and is proving herself to be a loving and affectionate companion.

Baxter

Baxter, 11 years old, adopted in December 2021

Baxter’s wish came true when he was adopted just in time for Christmas!  Having had a difficult early life and being adopted as a rescue dog at 3 years old, his life was once again turned upside down by his elderly owner’s ill health.  With hardly any exercise and no longer a spring chicken, he gained a few pounds and lost a lot of his fitness.  He hit the jackpot in December when he found his soulmate in his new owner.  A positive report from the vet and a lifestyle makeover in his new home has given Baxter a new lease of life.  He’s happy, playful, friendly and affectionate, as well as a few pounds lighter!

Sully

Sully, 3 years old, adopted in December 2021

Sully’s previous owners were overwhelmed when their third child developed health issues.  Three young children in the home meant that Sully’s care, exercise and training took a back seat and this began affecting his emotional state.  He became less responsive to commands and started to urinate indoors.  Although he had never displayed any agression and is loving and affectionate with everyone he meets, these behavioural issues led to his adoption in December.  His new family are absolutely delighted with Sully who is loving his new home and his behavioural problems are already a thing of the past.

Sam

Sam, 9 years old, adopted in December 2021

Before the death of his owner, Sam had a wonderfully active life.  He travelled regularly to Ireland where his owner had a holiday home, taking the long car and ferry journeys in his stride. Sam had always lived outdoors and was used to being in an environment with other dogs.  He will chase a running cat but will leave them alone when told, if they stand their ground.  He’s an extremely attentive and loyal companion – keeping one eye on his owner, even when he’s sniffing around outdoors.  Sam’s enthusiastically described by his new family as ‘A little star, a dream to walk on a lead, who now lives indoors and has housetrained himself from the word go’!
