2017 – Fun Day – Update

NWESSR Fun Day 25th June 2017

I am delighted to report that the 2017 Fun Day raised a huge £1956 profit, making it one of the most successful to date.   On Behalf of NWESSR and the trustees we would like to say a very big thank you to all our Sponsors, Supporters, Volunteers, Stalls, for attending our Annual Dog Fun Day, and the Cheshire locals with their dogs, we do hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did?  Early in the day was quiet, we think due to surrounding areas awash with heavy rain !! but as they say “the sun shines on the righteous” we were lucky and it stayed dry, with this the car park started to fill, and soon WE were “awash” with wagging tails, dogs of all shapes and sizes, springing around, good to see more children this year, even crying babies!!  lots of dog owners networking, sharing experience, memories and laughs!!

Fastest recall went down a “STORM”, actively and eagerly run by David, Selina and Liz, and the new Temptation Alley Challenge got off to a good start, a trial run this year, the liver treats made by our fabulous cook “Jo” were very much a challenge for our doggie friends !! even dogs passing by couldn’t resist bobbing in and pinching a few!!, assisted by Kristine and Carrie, volunteers.  The musical mats, slow to start, but after some persuasion, was enjoyed by all, as “Who let the dogs out” sounded out across the show field!!  The doggie tombola with the Timm’s family again at the helm went well, offering lots of yummy doggie treats!

Doggie show jumping, Wendy, and “Have a go Agility”, Eric gave a challenge, as well as many laughs!!   The Scurry, with Kevin’s expertise, attracted experienced as well as novice dogs, all enjoyed finding the dummies, helped by Ray (our webmaster) and volunteer Chris.

The dog show went down a treat, lots of Giggles, Laughs, Ahhh’s, assisted by judge Laura and steward Sadie, with John, Sue & Dennis taking entries for the classes.  The MC John made sure everyone was kept informed with his announcements throughout the day.  The Charlie Roebuck trophy was awarded to 13yrs old Fudge Sweeney, and the Philip Green Memorial Shield awarded to Buster Baldwin.

Our stalls facing inward to the rings, had a good day, we must say a very special thank you to Melanie and her craft stall, and Lindsey selling those wonderful plants, all proceeds to NWESSR, we are aware that they both worked very hard to produce these excellent goods.  Jo our volunteer café manager worked very hard, as always before and during the event. Scrumptious cakes, bacon baps, tea, coffee, served by volunteers Gill and Jo.

The NWESSR stall, tombola, raffle, and Laurie Dyer selling his book “Rescue me” did well, eagerly ran by Paula, Clare, Macey, Millie and Marie (NWESSR secretary).   Mick (NWESSR trustee and homing officer) was with us, as always, for free advice on any aspect of your dog’s behaviour and training.   You would have met Ken, who has been attending for many years with his 3-legged dog Poppy, he was with us on Saturday setting up and all-day Sunday, car parking, such loyalty deserves a medal.  Kevin, a volunteer photographer, very kindly took photos on the day, as you will see, we very much appreciate his time and expertise.

We also thank our guest stalls, Airsoft shooting, Steady Paws, Hounds Asleep, Jack’s Wardrobe, Avril’s Pets Portraits, who all add great value to the day.   Terri day ice cream, saw lots eating ice cream, as well as our doggie friends!!    Our sponsors, Arden Grange, Pets at Home, Pet’s Pantry, Burgess, Scruffs, Fish4dogs and Cobbydogs all donated wonderful prizes, again, we thank them for their generosity.   We also extend our thanks to Arthur Lee for the use of his field, and the hire of Lower Withington Village Hall, without which we would not be able to provide such wonderful catering by our expert, Jo.

Fun day 2018 is to be held on the weekend of Sunday 1st July 2018, we will be setting up on the Saturday 30th June please do come along, we have supporters who travel over 3 hours distance, and stay over, there are lots going on in Cheshire, worth a visit, and always worth the fun, laughs and most of all the memories.
